Sitting here at the waters edge,
still and calm and listening out for thee..
Are you the robin singing in the trees?
Are you the cool wind making ripples on the sea?
Are you the sun and the beautiful blue sky?
Are you in the chatter of the people passing by?
Are you the blackbird soaring high with wings in flight?
Are you the silence bringing peace and hope and light.?
Maybe you're in everything? I just need to trust you're there;
to know you want to bring me joy,
and bring me close to thee.
I wrote this short poem as I sat looking over the estuary at Portmeirion, in North Wales early in December at a time where I was seeking an encounter with God. A time where I was feeling deflated, vulnerable, feeling that God was hiding....and yet, in just a few short moments of using all my senses I glimpsed the beauty of God's creation all around me, as if God was saying...."Do not doubt...look, I am with you always".
There is always joy to be found, God is with us and in us. Perhaps you, like me, need to sometimes stop and sense God's presence in those around us and in all creation and learn to trust with our whole lives.
