Spiders web..

Often unnoticed,

sometimes ignored,

intricate and unique,

strong, yet sometimes flawed.

Complicated - well maybe,

but misunderstood..

Clever, with purpose

designed with reason for good.

Broken in a day, but not forgotten,

rewoven with love, with energy

and passion.

A need to thrive and survive

in life struggles.

Striving to shine to attract

some attention.

Beautifully capturing the light

in its splendour,

yet unseen in the darkness

hidden from sight.

God's glory is found

in your every strand;

whether you last a day or longer

you are loved by your maker.

I wrote this poem inspired by the image of the spider's web in my garden. The metaphors I have used remind me of life's ups and downs. Sometimes I struggle, confidence shaken and wanting to be heard, and other times, in the dark, wanting to hide away, overwhelmed and emotional as things can be tough.

But I am also reminded of how God sees beauty in me, that he has a purpose in life for me, just as there is a purpose to the spider's web. In order to flourish the spider spins its web, it is both strong and vulnerable at the same time to the elements and sometimes predators, and yet shines its light to attract food for itself and to feed its young. Some webs are here and gone in a day. Our own time, we know is in God's hands and all I need to know now in order to flourish is that I am deeply loved.
