"Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground." (Psalm 143:10 NIV).
How useful is a spirit level when we want to hang a picture just right?, or if you are working in the garden laying some slabs or bricks, to ensure everything is perfectly straight!?
How do we keep ourselves level headed and grounded in our faith when there is sometimes so much turmoil going on around us in the world, and at times in our own lives.
The times when we can't seem to find our focus, overwhelmed by everything we've got to do, or what we see or hear;
The times we've lost our sense of purpose, feel a bit lost and uncertain;
The times we are regretful for things said or done;
The times where perhaps we lose sight of who we are, our confidence shaken, our doubts creep in and we forget all that we have to offer..
In all these circumstances, God is there, eager, waiting patiently to provide hope, clarity, comfort, forgiveness, peace, joy, love, direction - in essence, whatever we need.
It is at times like these where we should lift our prayers to God, reach out to the one who loves us dearly, who sends his good and gentle Spirit that will lead us through the uneven and difficult path we have wandered onto and help us back onto the level ground of God's love.
It's not always easy to recognise our failures, faults and weaknesses, but I personally choose to say, teach me to do your will, for you are my God, may your Spirit lead me on level ground, I am ready and open to your call today.
