Do you ever have days when you get overwhelmed with all you have to do, unable to see the woods for the trees, the anxiety kicks in, your emotions take over, and you just do not know where to start? I had one of those days today - so much on my mind that I felt that there was too much and despite my best efforts, I found that my attention span was just minutes, unable to focus on just finishing one simple task.
How often do you go through days like this and despite having a Christian faith, fail at the first hurdle outside of weekly worship, to turn each day to God. We get up, and without thinking plough straight into what we have to do without taking time to breathe, pour that cup of coffee, open the bible or sit quiet and pray.
Today, when things got too much, I did stop, shut my eyes and reflect and in the silence I felt I heard God's voice. I was reminded of the words of Jesus in Matthew 11:28-30 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (NIV) and the comforting words in 1 Peter 5:7 "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." (NIV)
I immediately felt lighter and knowing God's presence felt able to move forward with renewed strength and calm.
Today's experience inspired me to write the poem "Take away my worries, Lord".
